The golden age of tennis

A champion measures himself by his opponents. Muhammad Ali would probably fly lower without Joe Frazier on opposite ring ropes - or without Sonny Liston or George Foreman. Ayrton Senna would risk less on corners without Alain Prost or Nigel Mansell in the rearview mirror. Would Michael Jordan have the same desire to win if he didn't face Magic Johnson and Larry Bird on opposing teams? Hard to know. Tennis is also defined by rivalries, each in its own time. The good news: the golden age of the courts is not in nostalgia, in remembering the clashes of yore. It is happening now.

Serbian Novak Djokovic, Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Swiss Roger Federer, the top three in the rankings, make up the best generation of tennis ever. Score. The latest edition of Wimbledon has witnessed this supremacy. In the longest 4-hour, 57-minute tournament final, Djokovic beat Federer after saving two match points in one of the brightest games to date. In the semifinal, Federer had beaten Nadal in their 40th match. Lucky for those who watched: it was another historic duel. From August 26 the three legends will meet again in another Grand Slam, the US Open.
